Former bomber baathist spy turned CIA puppet Iyad Allawi came under mortar fire in Mosul on Thursday. He is quoted
Six women slain, one man killed, and dozens wounded by two Iraqi on Iraqi attacks. Iraqi gunmen fired on a bus filled employees of Iraqi Airways and the Civil Aviation Ministry on their way Baghdad International Airport. The interim president, Ghazi Yawar staff came under attack by gunmen, killing two female secretaries and a "male colleague". The women may not have been the target of the attacks, however if they were seen as helping the Americans, its not inconceivable that they were targeted.
Fighting raged between insurgents and U.S. troops in Fallujah. RPG, mortar, and arms fire was exchanged. US airstrikes continue, several Iraqi killed in Thursday nights bombing.
The green zone suffered a mortar attack.
At least sixteen Iraqi have been reported killed in violence on Thursday.
The very presense of U.S. soldiers upon Iraqi soil means that insurgent attacks which kill Iraqi civilians will be accepted (albeit cold bloodedly) as colateral damage caused by resistance against the occupation - unfortunate but justified. We are giving them an excuse. Some Iraqi will sympathize more with the resistance when we bury them with bombs every night. The unfortunate fact is that U.S. troops and bombing have killed two thirds of all Iraqi civilian casualties. While we continue our heavy handed murderous occupation, more Iraqi will sympathize with the resistance. If our soldiers were not occupying Iraq, no Iraqi would have any reasonable cause to give quarter to an Iraqi who kills Iraqis.
Acceptible colateral damage is not a concept to which I subscribe. I consider colateral damage pre-meditated murder - especially when commited by an invading force, but justifiable colateral damage is undeniably a common viewpoint among soldiers. Without the presense of U.S. troops upon Iraqi soil, the insurgents have absolutely NO justification for Iraqi upon Iraqi attacks.
"My visit to Mosul had been announced publicly, and I was surprised that this did not happen at the beginning of my visit, but only at the end.".That is one cool viper for a man who just got shelled in his own country. I wonder how John Kerry or George Bush would react if treated similarly? We are in such deep crap.
