This performance is an excerpt from "David Holt's State of Music," a new program produced for North Carolina Public Television (UNC-TV) that premiered January 29, 2015. Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops (and many recordings) based her lyrics for this song on a slave memoir.
