grinding fine
May. 25th, 2006 11:46 amI cannot believe they let Kenny Boy drive home. Talk about white privilege."Skilling was convicted of all but nine of the 28 counts against him. Those counts related to insider trading charges that are often tough to prove. He was found guilty of one count of insider trading, for selling some 500,000 shares of Enron stock on Sept. 16, 2001.
For prosecutors, it was a clean sweep for Lay, who was found guilty of all six charges of fraud and conspiracy plus the four counts of bank fraud that were decided by Lake in a separate bench trial.
Lay, 64, could potentially spend the rest of his life in prison, as could Skilling, 52."
"Judge Sim Lake has set a sentencing date of Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m.,when Skilling and Lay potentially face dozens of years in prison for their convictions of conspiracy and fraud.
Skilling was acquitted of nine counts of insider trading; Lay was found guilty of all charges, including those in a separate bench trialfor bank fraud.
Lake decided not to detain the men pending sentencing, but he is requiring Lay to surrender his passport and post a $5 million cash bond. Skilling had already surrendered his passport and put up a bond in that exact amount.
Although prosecutors requested home confinement, Lake said that, nor electronic monitoring, were necessary.
"I'm not going to let Mr. Lay leave this building until his passport has been surrendered," Lake said.
The judge then set a 2 p.m. hearing for Lay to post bond and surrender his passport.
Lay will be allowed to go home after the hearing if the requirements are met.
Lay's attorney, Mike Ramsey, asked Lake if it would be okay for Lay to remain in the courtroom until the hearing was announced.
Lake said that would be fine."
Enron: The Movie
"In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom" - bob dylan
