U.S. Air Strike on Iraq's Falluja Kills 14:
U.S. air strike on the Iraqi city of Falluja killed at least 14 people including a woman and three children, Iraqi doctors said early Thursday. The U.S. military said in a separate statement it had "conducted a precision attack" Wednesday evening against two safe houses used by associates of al-Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in southwest Falluja, a city in the Sunni triangle west of Baghdad. Doctors in Falluja confirmed the deaths of 14 people including three children, one woman and one elderly man. Earlier Wednesday Zarqawi associates conducted an execution in southern Falluja, the U.S. statement said. "The Zarqawi associates were observed removing a man from the trunk of a car, executing him, then burying his body," the statement said. It added that the house attacked in the air strike was next to fields.
Senior Sadr Aide Assassinated In Iraq:
" Gunmen amushed and killed a senior aide to radical Iraqi Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr and two other people on the road between the holy city of Najaf and Baghdad, an official from the movement and relatives said Wednesday. "
US troops, Iraqi security come under attack:

  • A US military truck convoy has come under attack on a highway west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. ... One of the trucks was completely destroyed after a rocket-propelled grenade hit it


  • An Iraqi civilian was killed and three others were injured when an explosive device detonated in Arkhita market in Karrada area in central Baghdad


  • Four mortar bombs were fired near a government building in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, killing one police officer and wounding 17 civilians, the US military said


  • Another police officer was wounded in the attack in downtown Mosul shortly before noon


  • In Baghdad, mortars and rockets were fired at a venue where the interim national assembly was holding its first session. Five mortar bombs landed just outside the fortified Green Zone compound before the assembly's inaugural meeting. Two rockets exploded nearby after the session started. At least one civilian was wounded, officials said.
