Karen Kwaitkowski

"It was very much a policy agenda. I joined the office in May of 2002,. It became very clear to me shortly thereafter, that the descion to go into Iraq, to invade Iraq, to topple Saddam Hussien, and its unclear exactly what afterwards, but that decision had been made by the policy makers...and it was simply a matter of pushing the decision forward through the system.

That's not quite the same as having a system that informs policy makers with accurate intelligence and measured analysis in order for them to say "what should we do now"? They knew what they "should do" and they were intent on pushing it through. So, information was used. Intelligence was...I'm going to use the word 'manipulated', I believe it was manipulated. "Cherry picked" is another term that I've used and others have used to describe how bits of information about the threat that Iraq posed, about the relationship of Iraq with terrorist groups, and the whole array of things that we were told about Iraq. If you look at the intelligence, the intelligence was not saying that. It wasn't saying that under Bill Clinton and it was not saying that under George Bush. Okay? George Bush is right when he says Bill Clinton had the same information....yes, he did. He had the same information and he made a descision. His assement was Iraq was not a threat to the United States, and that was a correct descision. Information and intelligence did not change in the interm time frame. But they needed a reason, the neo-cons, when I say "they", in this case, the neoconservative policy makers who had a special interest in middle east policy seem to need to support an agenda.

Ya stole my thunder!!

I had been planning on re-posting her interview ... it really is a must hear, IMNSHO.
The other thing is Ralston Saul's 1 hour lecture on globalization and its discontents ... what an indictment of old-boys - style capitalism! (He remains, after all, a capitalist, however liberal.)

Oh mahn, go to the Oz site ... there's the transcript, broken into chunks.
And the talk itself is all o' that ... which is high praise, considering that d00d is nothing but a hi-falutin' liberal!

;-)

p.s. I spent a while on the OpenDemocracy site ... a whole lot longer than I'd anticipated, truth me told.
I can find equally good material elsewhere. But ... dang, they've got that place cooking.

I'm gonna troll a bit see if there's anybody awake over there ... maybe re-jig my IT concepts and see if any aspects of it can be implemented in keeping with their mandate.
The sile solid ... and deep. And so's the material.

Woaaaa ... that fucked up, but in a very very nice way!

Mahn, M$ is dead ... a Micro$loth server would have told me to eat shit, but BSD and ShoutCast ... with NullSoft in the background ... a very sane recovery!

8-)
